UW Medicine Enterprise Records and Health Information has an outstanding opportunity for an EMERGENCY CODER , payroll title Coding Specialist 4 .

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 100% FTE, Days

  • 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • Mondays - Fridays

  • 100% Remote POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

  • Implements the mission and goals of Enterprise Records and Health Information, and incorporating a “patients are first” service culture

  • Responsible for performing daily activities related to coding and charge submission of abstract Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) professional fee and facility emergency department coding and billing

  • Analyzes the medical record to assign International Classification of Diseases (ICD), CPT and/or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes to ensure correct code assignment and optimal reimbursement in compliance with state and federal guidelines DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

  • Enterprise Records and Health Information (ERHI) is a Shared Service Department that supports all aspects of the patient medical record from governance, integrity, documentation timeliness, completion, clinical coding, billing, release, and tracking to management of access, retention, and destruction.

  • ERHI provides advice and resources related to the lifecycle management of all UW Medicine records

  • ERHI is an integral part of the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and has a unique role in the organization that supports both clinical and operational activities. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews available electronic and other appropriate documentation within Epic and/or Cerner to identify all billable procedures and services within the emergency department requiring facility and/or professional fee coding, ensuring all necessary codes use the appropriate ICD, CPT and/or HCPCS code

  • Ensures coded services, charges and clinical documentation meet appropriate guidelines or standards

  • Collaborates with Chart Completion to follow up on charts suspended for prospective feedback to request clarification to coder queries

  • Consults with physicians and/or clinical department representatives, as appropriate, to verify services were rendered and documented

  • Provides retrospective feedback to assist in the understanding of coding and documentation issues and opportunities for future visits.

  • Maintains five day turnaround times for emergency coding based on date of service or discharge date; and understands charge lag impact for facility and professional fee services.

  • Performs special projects and other duties assigned. REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Three year coding experience or equivalent education/experience.

  • Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician Based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC), Radiology Certified Coder (RCC) or Radiation Oncology Certified Coder (ROCC).
