Job Summary

This position requires the knowledge and skills of a Certified Tumor Registrar/Oncology Data Specialist – Certified to conduct detailed medical record chart review and data collection for cancer-related research projects. This position is not responsible for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

  1. Abstracts, reviews, and documents cancer related information, according to the study protocol, to support cancer-related research data collection activities.

  2. Reviews and interprets patient information as it relates to research data requirements.

  3. Enters relevant information into a computerized data collection tool (REDCap, SEER*Abs, or similar).

  4. Must obtain and maintain relevant research training certifications in the Protection of Human Research subjects.

  5. Participates in the quality management of the research study data collection activities.

  6. Compiles data and generates reports for special studies.

  7. Assists in development and review of study data collection guidelines and procedures.

  8. Attends required study meetings and trainings.

  9. Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate work with others on the team. Ability to assist in conflict management with team members.

Please note that this position is needed to support the work for one large research project with 3 years of funding remaining.

Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency of ICD -O and ICD -9CM Vol l,ll,lll, ICD -10 CM/ PCS , DMS Coding.

Demonstrated knowledge of staging according to the American Joint Commission on Cancer ( AJCC ) staging system ( TNM ) Tumors Nodes Metastasis and Surveillance of Epidemiology and End Result ( SEER ) Summary Stage and Collaborative Staging.

Ability to prioritize and coordinate work processes.

Ability to assist in conflict management of teams.

The incumbent will be expected to maintain current certification and meet the continuing education requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

National Tumor Registry Certification.

Associate’s degree in a Health Information Management or National Cancer Registrar Association ( NCRA ) related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

Two years of related experience.

Preferred

RHIT or RHIA Certification.

Certification in NCRA related area.
