Nuclear Fuel Services Technical Lead and Estimator - S Parts in Peterborough, Ontario

We are looking for a Technical Lead and Estimator - S-Parts for our Peterborough, Ontario site.

BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position involves preparing estimates for sourced spare parts with support available from other team members. The Technical Lead & Estimator is responsible for defining the scope of supply and conveying to the team the technical / supply requirements. Day to day activities include identifying or setting up parts in our ERP system and working with Sourcing, QA & Engineering resources to prepare estimates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product identification

  • Review customer technical requirements

  • Review supply history

  • Set up or modify parts in ERP system

  • Discuss with QA the quality requirements

    Estimates

  • Provide direction to procurement resources regarding sourcing strategies to reduce cost and risk

  • Occasionally engage directly with suppliers to clarify requirements

  • Plan with QA and Technicians any in-house test requirements

  • Estimate pricing for spare parts using established estimating tools

  • Ensure cycle times align with established KPIs

    Technical review & oversight

  • Look up and review technical drawings, tech specs or maintenance manuals as required

  • Evaluate questions / deviations raised by suppliers and engage with QA/ Eng resources to address

  • Review supply defects and work with QA/ Eng resources to determine a path forward

  • For parts that are obsolete, work with Engineer and Sourcing to identify alternatives

  • Preparation of parts/material substitution control documentation for customer approval

  • When augmented quality is required work with QA/Eng resources to define and include in estimate

    Project planning & execution

  • For jobs which require in-house work, prepare the work order to direct resources on the tasks required and order of operation

  • Provide monthly schedule to shop manager to plan any required support

  • Give status updates to Product Owner who provides regular status updates to the customer

  • Respond to customer queries via the Product Owner

  • Identify risks to on time deliveries and work to remediate so KPIs are met

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or other technical area

  • 3-5 years working experience

  • Technically minded individual, with the ability to read drawings and technical specifications

  • Previous exposure to an Engineering environment considered an asset

  • High level of proficiency with data analysis and management including spreadsheet tools, ERP systems, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability in preparing estimates and defining project requirements

  • Conveys a professional demeanor and a problem solving attitude

  • Leadership skills including facilitating meetings, setting priorities, delegation and driving accountability

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently but comfortable working in a team environment

    The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,000.00 and $102,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
