Corewell Health Endoscopy Technician in Niles, Michigan
Job Summary
Assists in patient care before, during and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Assists the physician with the equipment and tools necessary to complete procedures. Responsible for inspecting, disinfecting, assembling, processing and distributing patient care instruments, equipment and supplies in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards. Contributes to the smooth operations of the unit.
Essential Functions
Obtains and organizes necessary equipment, supplies, and instruments for each procedural case. Cleans soiled instruments and equipment utilizing the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE). Inspects and tests instruments and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Assists the Gastroenterologist/physician with the technical tools necessary for treatment of the patient.
Administers localized medications under the immediate direction of the physician.
Handles procedural specimens under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) and delivery of specimens to designated area.
Ensures procedural images are available for the Gastroenterologist/physician to input into the procedure notes.
Assists with "turnover" of procedural rooms between patients. Prepares room for endoscopic procedures, restocks room as necessary, and cleans and prepares equipment, stretchers, work areas and reusable supplies, returning unneeded equipment to appropriate area.
Assists with patient care as directed by RN. Transports patients to and from the procedural rooms.
Communicates and collaborates with patients and other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity and coordination of services.
Qualifications
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Associate's Degree in related field
Required Completion of SGNA GTS Associates Program within 90 days of hire
Knowledge of medical terminology, experience utilizing aseptic technique, experience in the endoscopy environment handling scopes and assisting the GI provider, education and experience in health care facility, or understanding of infection control practices. Preferred
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 60 Days required Or
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 60 Days required
