Ultium Cells Overview:

Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that will have the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors' North American electric vehicle applications.

Position Description:

This position will be part of a technical team responsible for engineering work that includes continuous improvement, investigating and troubleshooting equipment/manufacturing/facility problems, analyzing production results, implementing and improving manufacturing methods and processes, and ensuring high yield and productivity in a highly automated manufacturing environment. His/her functions will also include interaction with internal and external customers and external vendors to solve urgent and complex problems by identifying and evaluating alternatives to provide support of all in-plant production as required. Position requires some on-call support.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance for plant safety and environmental regulations
  • Support Team Members and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production or processing of goods
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs
  • Collaborate with other leaders to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals
  • Support and train team to Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions
  • Support employee training through demonstrating equipment operations, safety procedures and quality expectations
  • Support and facilitate team-based problem solving
  • Observe key performance indicators of work area; monitor gauges, dials, and equipment performance other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards
  • Confer with leadership and team to resolve work force concerns and to employee engagement
  • Interpret specifications, part and assembly drawings, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies:

Minimum 3-5 years experience in complex mechanical assembly, tooling, and manufacturing equipment, including a basic understanding of machine controls

1-3 Years Industrial or Manufacturing Leadership - Supervision Experience preferred

Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science four-year college or university or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Strong understanding of quality processes and implementation methods

Knowledge of electricity, electrical products, raw materials, production processes, automated equipment, manufacturing cost reduction, and other techniques for maximizing the manufacturing efficiency and distribution of goods. (Especially, experience in manufacturing lithium-ion batteries is preferred.)

Minimum +3 years Industrial experience- supervisory experience required
