JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for Housing Operations is a live-on-campus position with responsibilities for on-call rotation and emergencies, including the management of the StarRez Housing Software, providing vision and guidance for strategic planning, project management, and data analysis. This position has strategic responsibilities that focus on supporting the assessment of student learning and effectiveness and retention.

This position is responsible for accurately inputting all housing and meal plan assignments, coordinating room selection, creating, developing, and updating online forms in the StarRez housing portal; troubleshooting student and employee issues and working collaboratively with campus partners

The Assistant Director for Housing Operations will uphold the Office of Residential Life and Housing mission to support Adelphi student's development in a safe and inclusive community and commit to on-campus leadership and citizenship through intentional social, cultural, educational, and experiential engagement.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $62,400. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

REPORTS TO: Director and Associate Director of Residential Life and Housing

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Live in one residence hall on campus and respond promptly to emergencies and routine referrals in that building and others as needed.

  • Supervise resident student and paraprofessional staff (Resident Assistants, Hall Attendants) in two residence halls.

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of structure and furnishings in two residence halls.

  • Identify and address the interests and needs of communities and individual students in assigned residence halls through support and programming initiatives.

  • Participate in departmental emergency on-call rotation.

  • Handle minor disciplinary incidents by serving as conduct officer, including administrative hearings, conflict mediation, enforcement of sanctions, and follow-up.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to individuals of diverse backgrounds including race, ethnicity, religion, gender, culture, disability, and socioeconomic status.

  • Engage in problem-solving with students, staff, faculty, parents, and community members.

  • Facilitate principles of strategic planning, assessment, and project management.

  • Coordinate the delivery of services and products such as Micro Fridges, Linens, and mattresses.

  • Manage inventory of residence hall furniture including beds, chairs, desks, dressers, and mattresses.

  • Coordinate Summer Housing Preparedness with Auxiliary Services and Conferences.

  • Coordinate the placements of Living Learning Communities.

  • Manage early arrival and extended stay processes.

  • Utilize data, reports, and assessment results for decision-making, strategic planning, and continuous improvement.

  • Leverage technology effectively in job responsibilities.

  • Troubleshoot Star Rez importing and exporting issues with Information Technology Office.

  • Collaborate with the Student Affairs Division to identify key performance indicators and track progress related to Residential Education and Housing strategic priorities.

  • Provide assistance to Student Affairs units in quantitative and qualitative data analysis to support student learning, success, and effectiveness.

  • Handle confidential data responsibly and make evidence-based decisions through analysis and assessment.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Experience with StarRez Housing Management Software

  • Knowledge in student learning outcomes and assessment

  • Experience in college residence hall management with live-in responsibilities.

  • Knowledge and experience applying student development theory to marketing and social media strategies.

  • Knowledge and experience with student development programming.

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to serve as a role model and mentor for students and staff.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Must live in the assigned residence hall in the apartment provided.

  • May require frequent walking.

  • May require frequent climbing of stairs.

  • May require moderate or heavy lifting.

  • May require frequent moving of equipment/furniture.

  • Requires frequent typing for extended periods of time.

    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's degree is required.

  • Master's degree is preferred.

  • Two to three years of experience as a Residence Hall Director and/or Database Administrator is required.

    POSITION(S) SUPERVISED :

  • Resident Assistants (10).

  • Hall Attendants (20+).
