How will you make an impact?

This position will lead the Carlsbad’s site engineering and equipment maintenance team, developing and driving an overall factory automation strategy. The candidate will be part of a larger divisional engineering leadership team with primary responsibilities to the Carlsbad manufacturing site. The candidate will be the engineering representative participating in the Carlsbad Operations leadership team.

What will you do?

  • Roles responsibilities will be split 80% Carlsbad / 20% Divisional

  • May manage team member that are Carlsbad site or divisional specific

  • Manage the sites automation engineering team including full-time employees and contractors

  • Lead the Equipment services (Maintenance) team in maintaining a high level of uptime for factory automation and equipment

  • Lead and own the Carlsbad operations capital process and roadmap.

  • Establish operating equipment specifications and improve manufacturing techniques

  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure processes and designs are compatible for new product technology transfer and to establish future process and equipment automation technology

  • Lead team through programs from concept thru execution while leading all stages in the process applying a strong set of project management tools

  • Responsible for finding, buying\building automation and processes to meet the needs of the manufacturing facility.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing to support operations and capital projects related to automation scope through full time employees and/or contractors

  • Be a proponent for all safety laws and a leader in practicing good safety standards. The position is responsible for maintaining and enforcing safe working practices by all members of the engineering department staff.

  • Coordinate with internal business partners on priorities, timelines and transparent sharing of information

  • Develop and maintain a team of motivated, productive and positive team by selecting, training, coaching, counseling and taking appropriate corrective action when needed.

  • Demonstrate analytical thinking and keen judgment and decision making

  • Perform additional duties and/or projects as assigned.

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Minimum required education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field

Experience:

  • 10+ years of manufacturing automation experience

  • 5+ years of people leadership experience (including but not limited to coaching, developing, mentoring, etc.)

  • Experience with Verification & Validation (i.e. FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ, PQ, etc…)

  • Experience with automation assembly, manufacturing, and testing

  • Experience designing, building, assembling, wiring equipment

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Biotechnology Manufacturing.

  • Experience with ISO 9001, 13485 and or GMP.

  • SolidWorks software experience.

  • Experience drafting specification documents.

  • Experienced leading continuous improvement programs and implementing tools such as Practical Process Improvement, 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, etc.

  • Experience in Agile Scrum project methodology.

  • Shown ability to achieve objectives by establishing a vision, developing strategies and directing resources.

  • Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities, in a fast-paced environment.

  • Analytical problem-solving skills critical to this role.

  • Demonstrated competence in engineering techniques and fundamentals.

  • Effective team collaboration skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency in the use of engineering techniques, equipment and materials.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $143,000.00–$214,000.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
