Siemens Energy Product Design / Forward Engineer in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

As a Forward Engineer, (Product Design Engineer) your exciting, challenging, and rewarding day is started by being recognized by our Clients, our Company, and the Team as the technical expert and flange-to-flange owner of Turbo-Compressor Modernization, Upgrade, Revamp, and Footprint replacement projects!You will work in a fast-paced environment with a dynamic, engaged, highly inventive, open and collaborative team. The Forward Engineer will handle complicated projects for custom engineered solutions related to the transformation of the oil and gas industry.

As the flange-to-flange core compressor project owner, you will create and optimize technical solutions that improve the performance, capabilities, reliability, and extend the useful operating life of critical turbo-machinery assets used in the Energy, Oil & Gas, and Chemicals similar industries. This will include Hydrogen, Carbon Dioxide, and other Hydrocarbon applications. You will use your ingenuity and work with a team to meet our customers’ needs and specifications while optimizing mechanical solutions for complex aerodynamic, rotordynamic, proven mechanic, acoustic, metallurgical, and other reliability challenges for a fleet of legacy and non-OEM machinery including centrifugal and axial turbo compressors, centrifugal pumps, and related equipment.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Worksafely following all corporate / local procedures and accurate completionof all required safety training.

  • Maintainaccurate and organized engineering records and follow all processes andobtain vital approvals where required.

  • Collaboratewith team members within this department and across the organization,including but not limited to other engineering specialty subject areas,sales, marketing, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, and projectmanagement.

  • Leadengineering to support design and manufacture of replacement machinery,machinery revamps, and machinery upgrades, e.g. compressors, pumps, andrelated equipment, to add performance and reliability capabilities to themachinery and also extending the machinery’s useful life.

  • Performengineering investigation, calculation, and analysis for various turbocompressor designs to resolve feasibility of, and ultimate implementationof rerates, revamps, and upgrades. Effective decision making, withinapproved guidelines and established product standards, is a key aspect.

  • Leadproduct engineering design coordination, collaboration, and moderation ofsophisticated technical matters with collaborators including CADDesigners; various Specialist Engineers, e.g. aero/thermo-dynamicists,rotor-dynamicists, metallurgists, proven mechanics analysts, manufacturingengineers, etc; and field service / repair center personnel.

  • Ensureproduct designs are in accordance with contract requirements for thesupply of hardware while meeting or exceeding company and product linestandards; and identify/advance deviations to established standards formanagement approval.

  • Participatein coordination, collaboration, and moderation of technical matters withteam members from manufacturing and supply chain, e.g.

  • Investigatedeviations and provide corrective actions; review and approve firstarticle process qualification reports associated with new processes orsuppliers.

  • Analyzetest results (field or factory), to evaluate and resolve if thermodynamicperformance, design performance, quality, and operating characteristicsare aligned with product design.

  • Participatein and/or conduct process and design FMEA and RCA as a part ofmulti-functional team, as required.

  • Participatein development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement ofdesign tools, product improvements, and engineering standards associatedwith design, manufacturing, testing, and repair of turbomachineryproducts.

  • Participatein workshops, e.g. Training/Mentoring/Coaching and other miscellaneousduties to support the product lines success.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’sdegree or equivalent experience in engineering (Mechanical,Aeronautical/Aerodynamic, Chemical degrees from an ABET accreditedcollege/university will be considered) Fresh graduates are welcome toapply.

  • 1+years’ experience machinery design, rotordynamics, strength-of-materials /solid mechanics, materials-of-construction selection, thermodynamics,aerodynamics, fluid dynamics preferred.

  • Priorexperience working with rotating machinery / turbo-machinery such ascentrifugal/radial compressors, axial compressors preferred.

  • Highattention to detail and strong analytical skills with the ability andinterest to perform detailed engineering calculations, preparespecifications, and write technical reports.

  • Abilityto work collaboratively and individually while maintaining strongorganizational and time management skills

  • Possessand demonstrate a high degree of tact and professionalism; whilepartnering with Management, Peers, Shop Personnel, Clients

  • Experiencewith Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-Point) and basic2D/3D CAD, ASME and API

  • Willingand able to travel domestically and internationally with short notice(estimated 5-15% travel)

  • The basesalary range is $62k-$116k. Specific offers are determined by variousfactors, such as experience, skills, certifications, and other businessneeds. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, thoughcompensation depends on each individual’s qualifications.

  • Applicantsmust be legally authorized for employment in the United States withoutneed for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. SiemensEnergy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible forinternal transfers.

Preferred:

  • Master’sdegree or equivalent experience

  • Noviceto Intermediate knowledge of these subjects is desirable: thermodynamics,aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, rotordynamics, strength-of-materials / solidmechanics, materials-of-construction selection, machinery design.

  • Noviceto Intermediate knowledge and understanding of Siemens Energy’s productsand services, e.g. Turbo Compressor Brands in portfolio: Dresser-Rand /Clark / Ingersoll-Rand, Cooper, Rolls-Royce, Demag, DeLaval

  • Noviceto Intermediate experience working with rotating machinery /turbo-machinery such as centrifugal/radial compressors, axial compressors,expanders, steam turbines.

  • Noviceto Intermediate knowledge of turbomachinery theory and thoroughunderstanding of standard engineering principles.

  • Experienceworking for a major rotating equipment supplier, machinery reliabilityengineer, and/or EPC.

  • Experiencewith machinery design, production, and/or or servicing of turbo-machinery,e.g. centrifugal compressors, axial compressors, centrifugal pumps, steamturbines, hot gas expanders, etc.
