About the Position

The Process Control Engineer (PCE) ensures the reliability/effectiveness of the various Process Control Systems in the Beaumont/Houston facilities (including the Distributed Control System (DCS)). In addition, the PCE will develop/implement long-range plans for Process Control within their respective facility, focusing on hardware/software upgrades, advanced control strategies, and industry trends for instrumentation and operator interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Safety: The Process Control Engineer has responsibility for providing a reliable DCS system and implementing Control Strategies, which protect the health of the processes and people in the facility. This position is also responsible for setting the Alarm Management Protocols for the plant and developing methods to ensure compliance. The Process Control Engineer will ensure the Controls Group maintains the tools and training necessary to safely work on the Control Systems in the facility.

  • Environmental: The Process Control Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance and reliability of any Control Systems needed to ensure Environmental Compliance of the operating units within the plant. These include systems controlling the plant flares, regenerative thermal oxidizers, and wastewater treatment. The Process Control Engineer will help support the facility's Data Historian which continually archives operating and laboratory data to maintain compliance with Environmental Reporting Requirements.

  • Quality: The Process Control Engineer will interface with the Operating Units in the plant to develop Control Strategies, improving the consistency of Operating Conditions and the quality of Finished Products.

  • Productivity/Continuous Improvement: The Process Control Engineer will interface with the plant's Technical and Operating Departments to identify opportunities to increase throughput, reduce waste, and improve energy efficiency (via additional Control Equipment or Strategies). In addition, the Process Control Engineer will work with the Operating Unit Engineers to troubleshoot control loops and effectively tune loops.

  • Engineering/Personnel Support: The Process Control Engineer will maintain an evergreen 5-year plan for upgrades to the Process Control Systems in the facility. The Process Control Engineer will interface with the Engineering Department to keep apprised of division-wide initiatives and provide support as necessary. In addition, this position will develop Capital Budgets and implement projects based on the 5-year plan.

Education and Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with discipline related to the position.

  • 3 or more years of experience in Process Control in manufacturing required, Petrochemical Industry experience desired.

  • Preferred, but not required, Master's degree in Engineering with discipline related to the position.

Skills and Abilities

  • Technical proficiency in basic Process Control Principles and Instrumentation acquired through education and experience.

  • Familiarity with Control Systems (including Distributed Control Systems and Programmable Logic Controllers).

  • Ability to troubleshoot and foresee technology requirements, especially in a business continuity situation.

  • Ability to work well in a diverse environment.

  • Good communication skills (both oral and written).
