Engineering Technician 1- The starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $1.00 optional pay for every hour worked.

Engineering Technician 2- Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $1.00 optional pay for every hour worked.

Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly

Engineering Technician 4- Starting salary is $18.35/hourly.

About this Position:

Statewide

This posting is for structural fabrication inspection located at numerous plants across the state and neighboring states. This position is responsible for quality assurance inspections for pre-stressed concrete pilings and girders. Travel will be required.

To assist higher-level technicians in the performance of structural fabrication inspection in Section 40, Gang 005. Engineering Technician positions are in a training series capped at Engineering Technician 4. Engineering Technicians 1- 4 in Section 40/Gang 005 are assigned to steel, precast, and pre-stress fabrication plants where they inspect fabricated structural members used in the construction of bridges and other State infrastructure. The plants are located throughout Louisiana and neighboring states. On occasion, the DOTD may produce materials from plants located nationwide. Technicians are assigned to various plants as needed. The required minimum number of years of experience, completion of required structured training courses, as well as satisfactory work performance, is required for incumbents to progress through the training series. This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a high school diploma or GED.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.

To participate in on-the-job training to learn basic, routine sub professional engineering tasks, as defined in the Examples Of Work Section.

Close from an Engineering Technician 5, 6, 7, a professional engineer or manager of the agency served.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from higher level engineering technicians by the focus on learning basic methods, techniques and procedures and by the presence of detailed instructions and close supervision.

Examples of Work

60% Inspects the production of fabricated structural members in fabrication plants by ensuring that these products meet all Department standards. Ensure that raw materials used in products are sampled and approved; bed layouts, steel spacing, stressing procedures, strand placement, concrete quality, steel material traceability and identification; welding procedures and workmanship, painting, and assembly; all comply with DOTD specifications. It is the incumbent's responsibility to ensure that these products meet all Department standards. Incumbent also assists in training lower-level technicians to perform inspections.

10% Ensures proper procedures are followed when products are shipped to the job-site. Failure to follow proper shipping procedures could result in materials being broken or damaged during delivery, which would cause costly delays to the DOTD construction projects.

10% Maintains field book inspection reports, scans and indexes documents into Archive System. Performs a visual inspection of the storage area to determine acceptability (accuracy and quality of workmanship) of fabricated structural products, in order to approve payment to the Contractor for the product stored and ready to be used for DOTD projects (stockpile payment).

10% Completes any and all required training, as mandated by the Department's Structured Training Program; stays abreast of changes relevant to Department policies and procedures.

5% Assists in training lower-level technicians proper inspection procedures and techniques.

5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary, including but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
