This position reports directly to the School of Medicine Research Administrator, within the SOM Office of Research Administration.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Directs and plans financial and operational effectiveness activities for several research infrastructure programs in the School of Medicine.

  • Plans, administers and monitors related budgets.

  • Performs financial analyses to determine appropriate expenditures, hires, or projects and makes related recommendations.

  • Establishes and administers budgets, policies and operating procedures, and performs related special analyses.

  • Provides leadership and participates in long-range financial and operational planning, trending, and budgeting.

  • Analyzes and presents financial trends and generates summaries for executive leadership.

  • Develops short and long term goals and implements policies to support financial viability.

  • Evaluates and recommends funding levels for research infrastructure programs or business cases for expansion or new programs.

  • Researches and assists in forecasting the financial impact of changes to programs.

  • Prepares materials and keeps leadership informed about budgets, HR, and other operational affairs.

  • Collaborates with others to facilitate projects and ensure timelines and action plans are accomplished.

  • Will have primary focus on the finances and operations of Institutional Cores, Division of Animal Resources (DAR), and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) on behalf of the School of Medicine.

  • Prepares and sets rates for Institutional Cores.

  • Key responsibilities include business unit financial operations and administrative oversight within School of Medicine Research Administration, including financial analysis, financial reporting, forecasting and budget analysis, operational and policy implementation and review, attendance at and facilitation of key leadership meetings and initial intake of administrative and HR issues.

  • Other important duties will focus on fiscal and operational tasks such as journal approvals, CASE Form review, Emory Express Approvals, and may include other program related support for research administration infrastructure.

  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in business administration, accounting, finance or a related field and six years of progressively responsible financial, financial analysis, and/or business management experience.

  • Masters degree and/or CPA preferred.

  • Demonstrated managerial, operational, and business acumen.

  • Experience with cores or animal research a plus.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department.This role requires residency in the state of GA.Emory reserves the right to change remote workstatus with notice toemployee.
